Regarding "Misleading photos" (June 17): there are some instructive parallels between stem-cell research and atomic research and proliferation. Although many who consider nuclear weapons immoral have worked to curtail their development through means of policy, law, and education, there is little chance that fascination with such weaponry will diminish.  will continue to motivate scientists, entrepreneurs, and the general public. I don't think that those of us who fear the commodification Commodification (or commoditization) is the transformation of what is normally a non-commodity into a commodity, or, in other words, to assign value. As the word commodity has distinct meanings in business and in Marxist theory, commodification  of human life would be accommodationist ac·com·mo·da·tion·ist

One that compromises with or adapts to the viewpoint of the opposition: a factional split between the hard-liners and the accomodationists.
 to support federal and international funding of stem-cell research, since this would ensure a degree of monitoring. Then perhaps the ethical dialogue will continue and cloning might be condemned, even if it may not be universally avoided.
