The new secretary of the Vatican Congregation for Divine Worship, Sri Lankan Archbishop Albert Malcolm Ranjith Patabendige Don, has argued that the liturgical reforms since Vatican II are not in the spirit of the council's liturgy constititution, reports The Tablet.


The new secretary of the Vatican Congregation for Divine Worship, Sri Lankan Archbishop Albert Malcolm Ranjith Albert Malcolm Ranjith Patabendige Don, more commonly known as Malcolm Ranjith, is presently the Secretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments of the Catholic Church. In an interview with the French newspaper La Croix La Croix is a French, Roman Catholic, daily newspaper. It is published in Paris and distributed throughout the country, with a circulation of just under 100,000. It is neither explicitly liberal or conservative on major political issues, but follows the Church's position , Patabendige Don called for a "reform of the reform," suggesting that the council never intended to have the priest face the people all the time or that the liturgy should be celebrated completely in the vernacular.

"On these subjects, we await the pope's instructions," he said.
