The new face of risk.


The terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, forced the insurance industry to acknowledge a new dimension of extreme risk. In numerous cases, the possibility of more attacks has caused insurers to decline risks they gladly would have accepted before. Our cover story, "On Alert" on page 28, examines how the industry has changed in the past five years as a result of terrorism and what's needed to handle this risk going forward. As one respondent to our reader survey on terrorism risk (page 35) said, "We are all in this together."
