With a few subtle updates we've transformed eight vintage looks into modern masterpieces. White, black, and pink are the cornerstones of color in dance fashion for a reason--they're timeless. But don't mistake them for boring. Pair a versatile piece with a trendy accessory for a fresh but chic outfit. You'll never go wrong with a classic look. So get ready to go retro. TO UPDATE: Choose a leotard with a plunging backline backline the upper outline of the body's silhouette viewed from the side. and opt for a tutu made of soft tulle Tulle (t l, Fr. tül), town (1990 pop. 18,685), capital of Corrèze dept., S central France. Firearms and other goods are made there. Tulle was built around a 7th-century monastery. and chiffon chiffon (shĭfŏn`), plain-weave, lightweight, sheer, transparent fabric made of cotton, silk, or synthetic fiber; it is made of fine, highly twisted, strong yarn. .

TO UPDATE: A hot pink belt Contrasts with the white leotard and adds flair. INSPIRATION: A Luigi dancer in jazz class (1964). CLASSIC LOOK: Mock turtleneck with simple belt and white sneakers. TO UPDATE: Throw a sequin se·quin n. 1. A small shiny ornamental disk, often sewn on cloth; a spangle. 2. A gold coin of the Venetian Republic. CLASSIC LOOK: White T-shirt and briefs over fishnets. TO UPDATE: Keep the fishnets but pair a sporty tank with boy shorts. INSPIRATION: Broadway dancer Lee Becker (1957). CLASSIC LOOK: A basic black camisole camisole /cam·i·sole/ (kam´i-sol) [Fr.] straitjacket; a jacketlike device for restraining the limbs, particularly the arms, of a violently disturbed patient. and wide-legged pants. TO UPDATE: Try a camisole with interesting back detail, cropped gaucho gaucho (gou`chō), cowboy of the Argentine and Uruguayan pampas (grasslands). The typical gaucho, a familiar figure in the 18th and 19th cent., was a daring, skillful horseman and plainsman. pants, and a headband.
