The making of a brand.


After reading about the creation of the Mequoda Library in last issue of NL/NL, a couple of readers inquired about the name Mequoda.

No, it's not a Native American tribe (like Manisses, see second news article this issue), much less one with a lucrative casino. Rather, it began as an in-house acronym acronym: see abbreviation.


A word typically made up of the first letters of two or more words; for example, BASIC stands for "Beginners All purpose Symbolic Instruction Code.

Kim Mateus told us that CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Don Nicholas "fell in love with the word he had invented and began using it to brand all his concepts." Those "concepts" now include the Mequoda Cafe (an interactive website), the Mequoda Method of evaluating websites, the Mequoda Summit (an annual conference), and, of course, the Mequoda Group.
