In the British courts of admiralty, when a party appeals from a decision made against him, he prays apostles from the judge, which are brief letters of dismission, stating the case, and declaring that the record will be transmitted. 2 Brown's Civ. and Adm. Law, 438; Dig. 49. 6.  are gathered around the table, with their spouses (and spouse-equivalents). Jesus sits at the center of the table, gazing wisely at his company.

JESUS

A simple meal, yes, but a fine one.

PETER

What's interesting is that the bread and the wine were both produced in a sustainable way.

JESUS

Really? I didn't know that.

ANDREW

We know a guy who produces all of his own stuff, totally organically. You should try his artisan cheeses.

JESUS

That would be nice. But I may not have time to do it. I don't have much time left to walk among you.

PETER

What? Why?

JESUS

One of you will betray me, one who is eating with me now.

ANDREW

What are you talking about? That's crazy!

JAMES

One of us? C'mon!

JESUS

Hey, don't shoot the messenger. I'm just sharing info, here.

JUDAS

THOMAS

I did. I'm trying to cut down on carbs.

JUDAS

Well, then you should put in more money.

THOMAS

What?

JUDAS

There was a set menu that we all agreed on and you ordered a la carte. Basically, you owe.

THOMAS

Why do you always have to be so difficult?

JUDAS

Fine! Forget it, then! I'm never going to be the guy who figures out the bill again!

JESUS

Guys! Guys! Please. Look, Thomas, just render unto un·to

INT. PONTIUS PILATE'S OFFICE--LATER THAT DAY

Jesus has been brought before Pilate.

PILATE

So, you are King of the Jews Jews [from Judah], traditionally, descendants of Judah, the fourth son of Jacob, whose tribe, with that of his half brother Benjamin, made up the kingdom of Judah; historically, members of the worldwide community of adherents to Judaism. ?

JESUS

I hate labels.

PILATE

Well, okay, but they say that you are King of the Jews.

JESUS

I'm really not into the whole "King" thing. It's like a power thing and it's toxic.

PILATE

Not following you.

JESUS

I'm just saying, hey, I'm a guy that some people believe is a certain thing and some people don't believe is a certain thing and it's up to you to, like, decide for yourself and stuff.

PILATE

This is a very irritating conversation.

JESUS

What. Ever.

INT. SMALL CANDLELIT ROOM

It's the Last Supper ...

PETER

This wine is excellent. What is it?

JAMES

A Merlot.

PETER

Really? It seems too complex to be a Merlot.

JAMES

My wine guy says it might have someCabernet Franc in it as well.

PETER

I was going to say ...

THOMAS

It almost has a Southern Rhone quality. Maybe some Mourvedre in there?

PETER

I don't get the Mourvedre.

THOMAS

I'm tasting so many things here. Ripe berries. Leather. Wood smoke.

JAMES

I'm getting the wood smoke. Mmmmm.

JUDAS

What's this whole shebang Noun 1. whole shebang - everything available; usually preceded by `the'; "we saw the whole shebang"; "a hotdog with the works"; "we took on the whole caboodle"; "for $10 you get the full treatment"  going to set me back?

PETER

What?

JUDAS

Nice wine. But what's the damage here?

JAMES

Oh, I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

"Don't know the trade." A Street expression used whenever one party lacks knowledge of a trade or receives conflicting instructions from the other party.
.

PETER

I feel it's inappropriate to discuss money.

JUDAS

Did you guys pay full price for the wine? C'mon! You should have gone to my guy and gotten a discount!

JAMES

Judas, please. We're having a nice dinner here. Could you not be so ... so ...

JUDAS

So what?

JAMES So ... so ...

PETER

So Jewish?

JUDAS

What are you talking about? We're all Jews here.

JAMES

I guess.

. GOLGOTHA--LATER

It's the scene of the Crucifixion crucifixion, hanging on a cross, in ancient times a method of capital punishment. It was practiced widely in the Middle East but not by the Greeks. The Romans, who may have borrowed it from Carthage, reserved it for slaves and despised malefactors. . FROM A DISTANCE we see a field of crosses. CENTURION

Who is that whom we just crucified?

MARY MAGDALENE

That was Jesus of Nazareth.

CENTURION

They say he is the Son of God. Is that true?

MARY MAGDALENE

Let's just say he is a fabulous guy. A terrific guy.

MARY THE MOTHER OF JAMES

Really a superb person. One of my absolute favorites.

CENTURION

MARY MAGDALENE

Well, no. We're not into the tears and the wailing and the drama.

MARY THE MOTHER OF JAMES

Too ethnic.
