Current Mood: feeling fat

Current Music: Tori Amos Tori Amos (born Myra Ellen Amos on August 22, 1963) is an American pianist and singer-songwriter. She is married to English sound engineer Mark Hawley. Together they have one daughter, Natashya "Tash" Lórien Hawley, born on September 5, 2000.

So it's been, like, almost a year since I left CBS News CBS News is the news division of American television and radio network CBS. Its current president is Sean McManus who is also head of CBS Sports. Current productions
Current television shows
  • CBS Morning News
  • The Early Show
for a lot of stupid reasons which, if you're still interested in (YAWN!) you can read about here and here and here and here, and today I'm celebrating (YAY!) cuz the network has decided to settle out of court with me and that means I'm free! They agreed to waive the non-compete clause A non-compete clause, or covenant not to compete (CNC), is a term used in contract law under which one party (usually an employee) agrees to not pursue a similar profession or trade in competition against another party (usually the employer).  which means old Danno is free free free to do what he does best, which is report and investigate the news. I'm happier than a fat lady's thighs when they've been sprinkled with talcum tal·cum

powder on a hot day. So all you network news mavens out there (except you know who) give me a jingle. I'm tan, rested, and ready to go back to work.

Incidentally, Eugene Volokh Eugene Volokh (born Yevgeniy Volokh,[1] Russian: Евгений Волох  has been blogging nonstop on the ins and outs ins and outs

2. The windings of a road or path.
of my settlement with CBS (Cell Broadcast Service) See cell broadcast.  for wrongful termination wrongful termination n. a right of an employee to sue his/her employer for damages (loss of wage and "fringe" benefits, and, if against "public policy," for punitive damages). . I'm not allowed to comment officially until the settlement is recorded, but let's just say he's absolutely correct about the book deal. It will include reproductions of the disputed e-mails that they say I sent to a Kerry-campaign muckety-muck, but which are clearly not mine and not from my computer. I'll be blogging on this topic next week.

Instapundit has an interesting, but, to my mind, flawed interpretation on the Iraqi elections. Read the whole thing and then head over to Josh Marshall for a more thorough take. Josh is one of the best newsmen in the business, and his commentary is as dependable and penetrating as a marital aid brought back from some place like Thailand.

Quick thought:

Unemployment numbers are in. The economy is as anemic as an heir to the Hapsburg throne. Are people really happy with the second Bush term? Hard to believe this poll or this one. Maybe old Danno was wrong about some stuff but right about the big picture?

They've got Wi-Fi at the Four Seasons restaurant, so while I'm waiting for my mystery lunch companion I can do some blogging. I'm sorta excited about lunch cuz I think I'm gonna get offered a job in network news, which I'll take faster than a teenage boy is done with his first lady of the evening, but I guess he's running late. Meanwhile, Andrew Sullivan takes me to task for yesterday's post about the distinction between accurate, true, truthful, truish, basically not false, and unconfirmed truthful-sounding potentialities, to which I reply, can't we all just move on?

Still no show on lunch. Maybe there's a big story brewing that's detained him? It'll be nice to be back in the saddle again "Back In The Saddle Again" is the eighteenth episode of the second season of the television series Gilmore Girls. It originally aired on April 23, 2002. Plot
It is Friday night and time for dinner.
. (Sigh)

Brokaw didn't show. And didn't call. I called him a few minutes ago. He's all oh was that today? And I'm like yes, Tom, yes. Today. I'm sitting here in the Grill Room. And he's all can we reschedule re·sched·ule
tr.v. re·sched·uled, re·sched·ul·ing, re·sched·ules
To schedule again or anew: rescheduled the meeting for the following week; rescheduled the debts of many developing nations.
? So I guess no job offer. (Sigh and double sigh)

Current Mood: upbeat, sorta

Current Music: Ben Folds's "One Angry Dwarf"

So I'm back at home. Pajamas just out of the dryer (Mmmmmmm. Warm pajamas) and I'm over the lunch fiasco and I'm just not gonna beat myself up over it anymore, cuz like Dr. Solomon says, you can't do anything about the past, and the future's gonna come anyway, so what you're left with is the present, and that's where I live now. The present.

Still can't bring myself to watch the CBS News evening telecast, which is something I never thought I'd say. I've got nothing against Bill O'Reilly, and I'm sure he's doing an okay job. But I just don't think of him as a newsman. He's an opinionator, a political partisan, which is something I never did and never was back when I was an anchor.

Powerline and Hugh Hewitt are blogging about CBS News's latest statement about our settlement agreement. I fisk Fisk   , James 1834-1872.
