The internet: Meet the new marketplace.

In January of 2000, The Corcoran Group spun off its Internet prodigy: corcoran.com. The web site sells homes listed by brokerage companies from all over the globe, and The Corcoran Group has become just another one of its more than 50 subscribers. By the end of the year, we expect to be just one of 200 subscribers. The little web site that we started as an experiment in 1995 has grown bigger than we are!

I'm thrilled because the Internet is the new marketplace. It's the marketplace that matters, and corcoran.com is already bringing The Corcoran Group one out of every 10 of our transactions. Without corcoran.com, The Corcoran Group would be 1 percent smaller!

Corcoran.com is already on its feet and moving at top speed towards its bright destiny. The talented James Kim This article is about the CNET editor. For the Korean guitarist, see Kim Se Hwang. For the Korean-American physician, see Jim Kim.

Unlike many Internet start-ups, we turn a profit. Corcoran.com's profit reached more than $1.5 million in 1999 on more than $87 million in sales. We are also the first Webbased company ever spun-off from a bricks-and-mortar residential real estate brokerage company.

The average price of homes sold on corcoran.com is around $546,000. What makes the Internet the marketplace that matters? It's simple -- this is the one place where you can sell to global, buyers at any time of day or night -- a $9 million, 1,000-year old castle in Tuscany alongside condo-hotel residences at the Mutiny Park in Miami, co-op apartments on Fifth Avenue and beautiful newly converted lofts at the Cobblestone Lofts building in Tribeca.

In fact, right, now we are selling all of these properties via corcoran.com. And we, are drawing buyers from all over the New York New York, state, United States

The Internet brings other benefits, too. It is instantaneous, easy to use, able to transmit useful information and open around the clock. It also allows our customers to come to us, browse and learn, then hit the "chat" button or pick up the phone when they're ready for help. With clients so busy today, the Web is an invaluable tool to boost productivity and save them time.
