The icing on the cake; We love an excuse to eat cake in the Family Life office, so National Cupcake Week gets a thumbs up from us. Today SARAH DALE talks to one Teesside mum about her new passion for.IT'LL be another couple of months before 12-week-old Dexter can have a little taste of his mum's delicious cupcakes. All he can do for now is watch wide-eyed as his big brother, Wilson, three-and-a-half, devours a tasty creation. But it was Dexter's Christening last month that inspired Jane-Anne Hooton to turn her creative talents to making unique cakes for her son's special day. "I looked about for people who made cakes but they were either booked up or too expensive," says Jane-Anne, 24, from Hardwick Green, Stockton. "My friend said she'd make the big cake and suggested I make the cupcakes. I spent a week practising and made a six-tier display. They were decorated with little ginger babies - like mini Dexters!" National Cupcake Week - which runs until Sunday - aims to celebrate the creativity and passion for baking. Jane-Anne has only been whipping up cup cakes for two months, but "loves it". "My mum jokes that she doesn't know where I get it from as she hates baking," she adds. "Wilson loves baking with me. He will bring his chair and climb up so he can reach." And husband Marc, 25, an events manager, relishes his role as chief tester. "When I'm trying out new flavours they get shipped out to all the family," laughs Jane-Anne, who also makes wedding stationery and cards and has a degree in textiles and surface design. She's now hoping to expand her business Jane-Anne Teacake - her parents' childhood pet name for her. "I am always on the lookout for in search of; looking for. See also: Lookout different toppers. I think it's this attention to detail that's proving popular," adds Jane-Anne, who juggles working for a greetings card shop, making cards, writing a blog (www.janeanneteacake.wordpress.com) and is also about to start teaching.
