AN ENDANGERED species endangered species, any plant or animal species whose ability to survive and reproduce has been jeopardized by human activities. In 1999 the U.S. government, in accordance with the U.S.  of ape is thriving at a popular zoo, amid fears that its natural environment will be destroyed within a decade.

Twycross Zoo (also known as the World Primate Centre
, a popular attraction with visitors from Coventry and Warwickshire, has welcomed a baby orang-utan called Tiga, the third to be born there in six months.

Zookeepers are delighted that Tiga's mother has taken to him, because they had to raise one of the other baby orang-utans by hand after he was rejected by his mum.

Tiga's arrival is good news for the zoo and for the species. The United Nations Environmental Programme predicted earlier this year that orang- utans might have less than a decade left to survive in the wilds of Borneo and Sumatra.

Zoo owner Molly Badham this year led a campaign to raise funds for a conservation programme helping Sumatran orang-utans, after it emerged that their only protected natural habitat in south-east Asia South-East Asia nle Sud-Est asiatique

Tiga was born last Monday to Kibriah, a 24-year-old Borneo orang-utan.

The baby, whose father is called Batu, is Kibriah's first male offspring. She had previously given birth to two females, Theodora and Maliku.

Tiga, who has been given his name because it is Indonesian for number three, is being reared by his mother, to the relief of all concerned.

Molly said: "Of the other two males born this year one, called Beau, had to be hand-reared by us.

"Fortunately, it looks like mum is going to accept this one. You can tell she's an experienced mother.

"Beau is a great little chap (Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol) An access control protocol for dialing into a network that provides a moderate degree of security. When the client logs onto the network, the network access server (NAS) sends the client a random value (the  and it is nice to rear all these babies, but it can be quite difficult to re-introduce them."

The new arrival adds to what is shaping up to be a fine summer for the zoo, which had to close for a month during the foot and mouth crisis.

Molly said: "It's unusual to have such good weather. It has made a tremendous difference and we've been really busy."
