The gaze of love. (meditation).


IF LOVE EXISTS UNDER ALL CIRCUMSTANCES, then so do the objects of love. There is always beauty to be found. It may not be for our possessing, but learning detachment is part of respect. The world is there despite us yet, and if we are not greedy, it is there for us. Zurbaran sets four vessels in a row; he lets the sun shine on them. He gazes in awe at their simple elegance, captivated cap·ti·vate

 of their shapes, by the shadows they cast and the play of light on their coloring. He makes no statement; he simply delights and gives thanks. Because of his reverence, Zurbaran allows the magic that is visible to him to become apparent to our eyes, too. Love communicates.
