The future of art education.


The authors in this issue take us on a journey of possibilities with their trail-blazing activities in which they explore new mediated forms of communication.

While the ways art teachers and students use technology vary from classroom to classroom, grade level to grade level, and school to school, the technology tools and resources should not be the focus. Instead, the authors in this issue pro vide strategies that contribute to authentic and meaningful art learning activities in which students critically and creatively explore their own and others' understandings of the world. Today, mobile, global, and miniature communication devices shape understandings and artistic expression.

 to develop this special issue on digital art education. We look forward to future collaborations that involve our readers in discussion with new media artists, other art teachers, and the authors in this issue.

Given that the supports and constraints in each classroom and school are different, no two art teachers who set out to integrate digital technology into their curricula will follow the exact same path.
