As the Surgeon General, he was commissioned as a Vice Admiral in the United States Public Health Service Commisioned Corps and served as the head of the Corps. , the man the president chose to be his Surgeon General The U.S. Surgeon General is charged with the protection and advancement of health in the United States. Since the 1960s the surgeon general has become a highly visible federal public health official, speaking out against known health risks such as tobacco use, and promoting disease  in 2002. Carmona left that post in July for a new position "where I can continue my work as Surgeon General to promote and advance the health of the nation."

Carmona will do this as vice chairman and chief executive of the health division of Canyon Ranch Canyon Ranch is a brand associated with several properties, communities, resorts, and spas.

That's the Republican way to "promote and advance the health of the nation."
