It's hard enough for most people to understand why Boston physician David Arndt left the hospital in the middle of a surgery he was performing in order to cash a check. But it might be an even tougher pill for gay people to swallow swallow, common name for small perching birds of almost worldwide distribution. There are about 100 species of swallows, including the martins, which belong to the same family. Although Arndt's attorney did not specify what part of his client's personal life was troubling him, it could very well be the $500,000 in support payments he has been ordered to pay his ex-boyfriend, psychiatrist psychiatrist /psy·chi·a·trist/ (si-ki´ah-trist) a physician who specializes in psychiatry.

For his part, Goldfinger denies that his legal settlement with Arndt had anything to do with the operating-room incident, telling The Boston Globe, "I have never received any money from Dr. Arndt since our separation."
