The collected wisdom of ...Name: Bob Everest Title: President Nortek Computers Ltd. Residence:North Bay Q What's the best advice you've ever received? [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] Always tell the truth, there are just too many stories to remember if you lie. My parents are very grounded and this is a cornerstone philosophy of theirs. Q What qualities do you look for in a new employee? Based on your first question, I would say honesty. I also look for people who are self-starters, not afraid to make mistakes and who are driven to be better. A sense of humour also helps. Q What kind of boss are you to work for? If you have the qualities above, I will be a great boss. I like to empower my employees, give them the information, the tools and the direction and then get out of their way. Q What's your most treasured possession? Let's change this question slightly. What do I treasure most? My family and friends. Life is about balance and I think too many people lose sight of that in today's world. Q Is there anything that you're obsessive about? I'm obsessive about boats. Boating is a release for me, being out on the water on a beautiful summer day, that is my obsession. Q Have you ever had a fork-in-the-road experience? I've had a few, but most notably was what to do next after leaving my last position (Persona Communication). The struggle was to go back down south and take another corporate position or strike out into private enterprise as the owner of a company. You have to trust your instincts, be ready to take a risk, do your homework and expect a few bumps in the road. For me, it was the right decision and today, I'm an owner of Nortek, living in North Bay and enjoying my new career. |
