Q What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?

Always keep a tie handy and put it on if you are going in front of a TV camera, even if it doesn't match your shirt. Given to me in 1985 by the then and present Mayor of Timmins, Vic Power Vic Power may refer to:
  • Victor Pellot, a Puerto Rican-born Major League Baseball player who used his mother's maiden name professionally.
  • Victor M. Power, a Canadian politician.

Q Was there a fork in the road A Fork in the Road is an Australian travel television series airing on SBS and hosted by Pria Viswalingam.

Described by SBS as "the thinking-person’s travel show" the program takes the viewer off the beaten track and takes a look at the lives of the people
 of life for you?

If you mean a fork in the road where I had a choice and chose, for instance, the road less traveled, then I would have to say no.

But if you include a situation where the road I was on became blocked, forcing me to take another route, then I would say yes, more than once.

However, the most significant event occurred when my position as North Bay district manager of MOE Moe

continually exasperated at Larry and Curly for their mischievous pranks. [TV: “The Three Stooges” in Terrace, II, 366]

(Ministry of Environment) was eliminated in January 1997. For three years I had to fend for myself as a private consultant and then in February 2000, I got the position of Environmental Commissioner of Ontario. If they hadn't eliminated my position, I probably still would be district manager.

with trees and forests, especially old growth forests and rare tree species. I actually will travel to remote places to see great trees.

Q What talent would you most like to have?

I would love to have the talent of being able to instantly recall the names and faces of the thousands of people I have met in my travels. Some people have this skill and it certainly facilitates warm personal interactions.

Q What's needed to sustain a vibrant and environmentally friendly Northern Ontario economy (in 30 words or less)?

We must create added value in the materials we produce and we must strive to maximize benefits from non-timber forest products Non-timber forest products or NTFPs comprise all goods derived from forests of both plant and animal origin other than timber. NTFPs contribute to household income and subsistence and are of cultural importance in many rural societies. .
