I enjoy working with people with a positive attitude. There is always lots to be down about, so why not focus on the things that are going well? Similarly, I find it difficult to be around people who can't be positive.

Q What is your greatest achievement?

Anything of significance I have done as a medical researcher was with a team, therefore, I would have to say that my greatest achievement has been the opportunity to work with many very talented individuals.

I was once told that the best time to move into any field is when nobody else is doing it. In some ways, it is a very risky way to operate, but it is probably true.

Q Professionally, who has inspired you the most?

I am fortunate to work with several very smart people who work very hard.

They inspire me greatly.

Q Give me your best pitch for a bioprospecting centre in the North?

Bioprospecting for medically-oriented products offer our region an outstanding opportunity. The project has the potential to link many assets in the North, in areas where there is already exceptional talent, into a relatively new discipline. The benefits of even a single success in this field are potentially staggering.
