The beautiful and the sacred in art and religion.


This article asserts that the experience of the beautiful and the sacred were joined, but for historical and political reasons they became separated; in fact at times they are seen as opposed and even contradictory. The article presents their opposition which takes the form of "secularization of art" as Van der Leuuw called it, while its counter approach calls for the "sacralization sacralization /sa·cral·iza·tion/ (sa?kral-i-za´shun) anomalous fusion of the fifth lumbar vertebra with the first segment of the sacrum.
