The battle for congress.

On November November: see month.  7, 2006, U.S. voters' choices will determine which political party will control the U.S. Congress for the next two years. Voters will elect all 435 members of the U.S. House of Representatives. They also will choose 33 of the 100 U.S. Senators The term Senators can refer to:
  • The pop band from Paisley in the 1960s
  • The pop band from the 1990s
  • The members (or legislators) of a senate
  • The Singing Senators, a group of U.S. Republican Senators who sang as a barbershop quartet.
.

Both the Democratic and Republican parties hope to win a majority of seats in the House and Senate. Being the majority party is an important goal for each party. The party that holds the most seats selects the most powerful leader in each chamber--the Speaker of the House and the Senate Majority Leader. The majority party usually has the votes to pass legislation, control government taxing and spending, and approve or reject the President's appointments of ambassadors, federal judges, and top government officials.
