 announced today that the five best-selling titles of 2003, and at least nine of the ten top-selling games by console, include Dolby(R) Pro Logic(R) II or Dolby Digital A digital audio encoding system from Dolby used in movie and home theaters. Dolby Pro Logic II encoding allows five channels of audio to pass through an Lt/Rt (encoded analog stereo) signal, and then be decoded by a Dolby Pro Logic II receiver into five full-bandwidth audio channels (Left, Right, Center, Left Surround, and Right Surround). Dolby Pro Logic II gracefully decodes any two-channel source material, ranging from stereo music to Dolby Surround content, as Dolby Pro Logic II content. Content encoded with Dolby Pro Logic II is also backward compatible with Dolby Pro Logic decoding, as well as stereo playback.

Dolby Digital 5.1 is a high-quality multichannel audio coding system. In games for the Xbox console, Dolby Digital exists in the form of a digital signal output from the console, which is in turn connected to either Microsoft's Xbox Advanced AV Pack or Xbox High Definition AV Pack and a home theater system equipped with Dolby Digital decoding.
