The World's Fastest Tank. (Digest).
The official international speed record for the World's
Fastest Tank has recently been set by a CVR(T) Scorpion Tank upgraded to
the latest S 2000 Peacekeeper standard by Repaircraft. Timed by the
British police and MMST and witnessed by the Guiness Book or Records, a
standard production S 2000 raced its way into the record books at an
average speed of 82.23 kph. To qualify as a world record, calibrated and
certified electronic speed readings must be taken for consecutive runs
in opposite directions, therefore the electronic speed measuring
equipment was set up in the centre of the main straight of the British
Ministry of Defence QuinetiQ test track. The secret under-the-hood
formula for the Peacekeeper is a Repaircraft/Steyr model 2133 3.2 litre
turbocharged and electronically managed diesel engine. The S 2000
features K10,000 replaceable rubber pad tracks, the S 2000 Intelligent
Electrical System, an explosive suppressant fuel tank, DNGS image
intensifier day/night-vision gun sights and applique armour fitted as
standard issue.
