A phone call from a mysterious man, who can only say a few seemingly unconnected words, changes his life. When he first hears from him, Errol thinks it's only an insane person who's calling him in confusion. Then the man claims to be his father, Arthur Bontemps Porter, back from the dead. The Porter family drama takes on a bigger scope when GT begins to explain his origins in a mysterious substance called The Wave. As he reveals more, GT draws Errol deeper into dangerous territory and gives him knowledge that makes him a wanted man. Yet Errol's beliefs and his relationship with his father are always at the heart of the story, even as more people become involved. Is GT really his father resurrected? And what does believing in such a return mean for Errol's emotional life?

GT's presence challenges the notion of how beings are connected and who really is a threat on our planet. Errol must decide whether he believes in this shadow of his father and whether he will stay with GT as the two go deeper into The Wave.
