 Moms and Dads.

Hewlett and West spent three years listening to parents' concerns. In addition, the authors reviewed their own childhood experiences and compared those times with the present. They cited the dramatic changes in attitudes toward parents.

The authors present their blueprint for parent empowerment, the Parents' Bill of Rights for the 21" century, which they believe gives dignity to the parental role while restoring America's commitment to the well-being of all children. School leaders should heed their commentary, which is focused on uniting America's 62 million parents.

This is not a book to read and put away. Rather, it provides school leaders with useful information to use in their efforts to strengthen children's development before they enter the schools and once they arrive in the classroom.
