The University of Southern California The U.S. News & World Report ranked USC 27th among all universities in the United States in its 2008 ranking of "America's Best Colleges", also designating it as one of the "most selective universities" for admitting 8,634 of the almost 34,000 who applied for freshman admission , Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  is being awarded a $7,955,852 contract to provide for military application and platforms, which have an urgent and growing need for power efficient computing and communications. (a) Empower platforms to perform new missions, (b) enable dramatically extended mission timelines, (c) enable new capabilities on existing missions, and (d) reduce logistics costs by requiring fewer energy resources and less frequent replenishment cycles. The technology base exists to address power efficient computing. This program is focused on developing radio nodes for the research and development of the Power Aware Computing and Communications infrastructure. At this time, $1,399,999 of the funds has been obligated ob·li·gate

. This work will be completed by March 2005. Solicitation began March 2001. Negotiations were completed June 2002. The Air Force Research Laboratory, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, U.S. military installation, 8,023 acres (3,247 hectares), W Ohio, NE of Dayton; est. 1917. One of the largest airport installations in the world, it is the air force's main research and development base, and the headquarters of the , Ohio, is the contracting activity (F33615-02-2-4005).
