 tale of the eternal battle between good and evil, in which Gemmell conveys many interesting lessons about sacrifice, love, and morality in general. The hero, Oleg Skilgannon, is brought back from "the void" where he is "trapped" because of his misdeeds in his previous life 1000 years ago. He has to find a way to end the magic that was used to bring him back to life in order to end the evil reign of his former wife, who has found a way to be immortal.
