The State of the Union: our graphs and cartogram give a picture of our country in 2003. (Skills).


Article II, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution requires the President to "from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union." On January 28, President Bush will address Congress and the nation. He will talk about the present state of U.S. affairs and his goals for 2003.

 that show some of the changes taking place in the U.S. The U.S. population, for example, is constantly changing. Each day immigrants come to the U.S. (See bar graph.) As the population changes, some states grow more quickly than others. The cartogram (below) shows what the U.S. would look like if each state's size were based on its population. Unemployment
