The State of the Printing Ink Industry in 2000.

As we head into the year 2000, it is interesting to reflect back on some of the predictions that have been made about the future of the printing ink industry.

One trend that is often remarked upon is the growing number of mergers and acquisitions, and the concern over the future of smaller companies. Without a doubt, the larger companies indeed keep increasing their market share: Sun Chemical Corporation and Flint flint, mineral
flint, variety of quartz that commonly occurs in rounded nodules and whose crystal structure is not visible to the naked eye. Flint is dark gray, smoky brown, or black in color; pale gray flint is called chert.
Ink Corporation have each made major acquisitions during the past year, and the Toyo TOYO may refer to:
  • Toyo -Toyo Engineering Corporation, Japan
  • Toyo Tires -Toyo Tire & Rubber Company, Japan
  • Tōyo, Ehime A former city in Japan
  • Toyo (Quechua: T'uyu

However, with that being said, these companies also face challenges that favor small manufacturers. For instance, a small company doesn't does·n't

have the high overhead. These smaller companies can concentrate on providing service to a select number of customers, and not have to stretch their resources.

Above all, these companies can customize products for smaller runs, which really is their competitive advantage. A small company can create unique products for their customers, and in so doing, create a niche that is all their own.

There are plenty of niches available for ink manufacturers, since there are countless uses for inks. Just about everywhere one looks, ink is involved, whether it is used for publishing or packaging.

If indeed the future of the smaller printing ink manufacturers is in jeopardy jeopardy, in law, condition of a person charged with a crime and thus in danger of punishment. At common law a defendant could be exposed to jeopardy for the same offense only once; exposing a person twice is known as

double jeopardy.
due to the growing power Growing Power is an urban agriculture organization headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It runs the last functional farm within the Milwaukee city limits and also organizes activities in Chicago.  of the largest companies, then one would expect a decline in the number of ink manufacturers. That is not the case, though: the National Association of Printing Ink Manufacturers (NAPIM NAPIM National Association of Printing Ink Manufacturers ) has found that the number of ink companies is increasing.

Every January, Ink World publishes its annual U.S. Ink Directory. This year, we list more companies than ever before, and the vast majority of companies we talked with say that business is good. For most of the smaller companies, they have found niches that will allow them to succeed well into the 21st century, which is certainly good news indeed.
