The Sieben grind.

I GUESS IT STARTED WITH MIKE SMITH, RIGHT? He had his own special little way of doing a frontside grind. Did he name it? Did his friends name it? I'm not much of a skateboard historian so I'm not really sure. But the point is, somebody named it, and now anytime a grind gets performed in such a manner, Mike Smith's name gets mentioned. Which if you think about it is a pretty big fucking deal. When Mike Smith is dead and gone, his namesake name·sake
n.
One that is named after another.

[From the phrase for the name's sake.]

Immortality of the soul is a cardinal tenet of Islam and is held generally in Judaism, although it is not an , right? And it's not just Mike Smith. Shit man, Barley's got one, Suski's got one, Koston used to have one, Dressen's got one, even a young kid named Matt Bennett's got one. So it got me thinking, "Freaking freak·ing

Used as an intensive: Traffic was a freaking nightmare.

[Alteration of frigging, present participle of frig.]
A Sieben, you got to get yourself a grind!"

And so I made up my own grind (I think). If somebody else has already taken credit for this one, let me know. But as far as I know what I'm about to describe to you is what will now be known as a "Sieben" grind.

OK, so let's say you're rolling up to a rail, right? Now let's say you're approaching it with the rail to your backside BACKSIDE, estates. In England this term was formerly used in conveyances and even in pleadings, and is still, adhered to with reference to ancient descriptions in deeds, in continuing the transfer of the same. property. . OK, now as you approach the rail, do a frontside 180 ollie Ollie may refer to the following:
  • Shortened form of the given name Oliver
  • Ollie (skateboarding trick), the skateboarding trick invented by Alan "Ollie" Gelfand
  • Ollie Impossible, a variant of the trick first performed by Rodney Mullen
to fakie Fakie is, in skateboarding, a synonym for riding backwards on a skateboard. When used in conjunction with a trick name, like "fakie ollie", it means that the trick was performed while with your normal back foot as the front foot on the nose of the board, rather than the back of the  nosegrind. I know, you're thinking, "Come on Sieben, people already do 180 nosegrinds," right? But you didn't wait for me to finish. OK, are you done? OK, so you do a 180 ollie to fakie nosegrind, but you keep rotating ro·tate

down the rail. Got it? And you can do it backside too so that you end up ollieing over into a regular switch feeble. Right? Has anybody done those yet? I don't watch too many new skateboard videos these days because, well, I guess because I'm old. So anyway, if nobody is already doing this, then let's just all agree that it will be called a "Sieben" grind, OK?

Now I know what you're thinking. You're thinking, "Yeah, but dude, those other guys got grinds named after them because they were the first people to actually do the grind itself." And to that I say, if I were physically able to ollie over a rail into a switch front feeble then I would be out there doing it right now. Shit, if I could do that trick then I would probably be good enough to do all sorts of other fucking awesome tricks too. And I wouldn't be sitting here writing these smart ass little articles. Hell no, I'd be in Barcelona filming for my highly-anticipated video part that was about to drop. My point being, that I think you guys should just give me a break and let me have my grind even though I can't do it myself.

So anyway, whenever some young kid reads this article and goes out and shoots a sequence of this trick I invented, all I ask is that credit is given where credit is due. And I was thinking that at the end of the trick you could also keep your rotation going and switch 180 out of the trick so that you come out forwards. And you can also do this trick switch from the start so that you actually switch ollie over into a regular-stance feeble. Shit, I guess whenever people get good enough at Sieben grinds, they'll probably kickflip into them. Dang dang

Oh yeah, kids, Dressen's grind is called a Salad grind. It doesn't actually include his name, but if you're an old dude you know what's up. And if you're a young dude and know how to read I guess now you know what's up too.
