The Sculptor's Eye.

This book has been available for several years, but has not received the attention it deserves. I know of no other publication in the area of sculpture that introduces contemporary sculpture and sculptors in a more easily readable form to anyone from age ten through adulthood. The authors use the language of art to introduce concepts about contemporary sculpture, while the book's first chapter presents a logical system for looking at sculpture. Subsequent chapters explore subject matter, spatial considerations, and the materials sculptors use - from Rauschenberg's stuffed goat to Deborah Butterworth's rusted steel. What makes this book especially worthwhile, however, are the many brief but meaningful interviews with significant sculptors that are interspersed throughout the book.
