The Rt. Hon. Malcolm Rifkind QC Appointed to the Board of Ramco Energy plc.
Rifkind, former Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, has been elected to join the Board as a Non-Executive Director with effect from 1 August 1997.
Wednesday (23 July 1997), Ramco announced a recommended share offer to acquire the whole of the issued, and to be issued, share capital of JKX Oil & Gas (JKX), the UK based energy company focused primarily on the Ukraine and Georgia.
Rifkind's experience in the areas in which JKX operates, as well as in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe as a whole, will be invaluable towards building Ramco's business in these regions.
Rifkind provides a further strength of regional and political knowledge to Ramco's Board, as well as a knowledge of Scotland and Scottish business through his time as Secretary of State for Scotland. Rifkind also has a good knowledge of the regions in which Ramco operates and high level political contacts within these regions.

The Rt. Hon. Malcolm Rifkind QC was called to the Scottish Bar in 1970. He represented the Edinburgh Pentlands constituency as their MP from 1974-1997. During this time, he also held the positions of: Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Scottish Office (1979-82); Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Foreign Office (1982-83); Minister of State, Foreign Office (1983-86); Secretary of State for Scotland (1986-90); Secretary of State for Transport (1990-92); Secretary of State for Defense (1992-95), and Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (1995-97).
The Rt. Hon. Malcolm Rifkind QC was educated in Scotland at George Watson's College, Edinburgh and at the University of Edinburgh where he received his LLB and Master of Sciences. He is married with a son and daughter, both in their early twenties and lives in Edinburgh.
