The editors of the company's magazines, including Christopher Willcox, editor-in-chief of Reader's Digest, will continue in their current roles and report to Mr. Schrier.

Thomas O. Ryder, chairman and CEO of The Reader's Digest Association, Inc., noted that Schrier will be the first person to manage editorial development of all the company's products since DeWitt Wallace DeWitt Wallace (November 12, 1889 – March 30, 1981, also known as William Roy) was a United States magazine publisher. He co-founded Reader's Digest with his wife Lila Wallace and published the first issue in 1922.

Schrier, 48, has served for the past five years as president and CEO of Time Inc Health, the multi-faceted health information business he developed around Health, the company's flagship magazine Flagship Magazine is an independent magazine for gamers [1]. Published in the UK, it started in 1983 for PBM players [2]. Since its hundredth issue in 2002, it has extended its coverage to include boardgames, role-playing games, web games and massively  he founded in 1987 and later sold to Time Inc. As CEO, he extended the franchise into other print and electronic media including books, television, video, radio and the Internet, and marketed its products to managed care and pharmaceutical companies. He directed all of Time Inc Health's editorial efforts when Health won four National Magazine Awards.

From 1990 to 1995, Schrier was the editor-in-chief of Time Inc.Ventures, where he evaluated new magazine concepts, acquisitions, franchise extensions and growth markets. During his tenure, Time Inc.Ventures launched Martha Stewart Living Martha Stewart Living is a magazine and a television show featuring entertaining and home decorating guru Martha Stewart. Both the magazine and the television program focus on the domestic arts. , This Old House, and Vibe. He was also responsible for repositioning and redesign efforts of Time Inc. Venture's 13 existing titles and for development of early on-line strategies.

Schrier began his career in marine biology marine biology, study of ocean plants and animals and their ecological relationships. Marine organisms may be classified (according to their mode of life) as nektonic, planktonic, or benthic. Nektonic animals are those that swim and migrate freely, e.g.  before launching Science 80, the first science magazine for a consumer audience. Under Schrier's editorship, the magazine won two National Magazine Awards. Later, he founded Hippocrates, the consumer health magazine that ultimately became Health.
