The Razz: Movie review - SPUN 18.Byline: ALAN MORRISON Alan Morrison is the name of several persons:
DIRECTOR Jonas Akerlund is definitely no stranger to controversy. He's the guy who made the infamous video for The Prodigy single, Smack My Bitch Up. So we shouldn't be surprised that he's keen to attack a few taboos in his first feature film. Unfortunately, though, Spun is everything that is wrong with heroin chic Heroin chic, characterized by pale skin, dark circles underneath the eyes, and jutting bones, was a look popularized in mid-1990s fashion. This waifish, emaciated, and drug-addicted look was popular in the fashion world and was the basis of the 1993 advertising campaign of Calvin . Pretty people looking wasted and dedicating their lives to drugs can, in the right hands, be a powerful subject. Akerlund just thinks it's cool. This film is all about the look, not just of the characters, but of the film itself. It's full of gratuitous flash-cuts and visual effects. Some might say these tricks mirror the edgyparanoia of the drug addicts. Others would argue that the director is just showing off. Jason Schwartzmann plays a crystal methedrine addict roped in to do some chores for drug-maker The Cook (Mickey Rourke). He meets up with other low-lives, including dealer Spider Mike (John Leguizamo John Leguizamo (born July 22, 1964) is an Emmy Award-winning and Golden Globe-nominated Colombian comedian, actor and producer. Biography Early life Leguizamo was born in Bogotá, Colombia. ) and his constipated girlfriend Cookie (Mena Suvari). There's no story or much point to what we're watching. This is shock for shock's sake especially Brittany Murphy's horrible fate. CAPTION(S): SHOCKED: Brittany Murphy |
