The Primate's World Relief and Development Fund: Annual Report 2003.

A Message from the Primate

Dear Friends in Christ,

ONE OF THE GREATEST privileges in my new role as Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada The Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada (referred to in older documents as the Primate of All Canada) is elected by the General Synod of the Church from among a list of five bishops nominated by the House of Bishops.  is to be so directly involved in The Primate's World Relief and Development Fund. Through three primacies, and now into a fourth, PWRDF PWRDF Primate's World Relief and Development Fund  has become our most effective response to the cry for development relief in the face of crisis, and justice in a complex global context of profound human need.

Our baptismal commitment, which framed the recent General Synod The General Synod is the title of the governing body of some church organizations. Church of England

This year's annual report is filled with good news and financial encouragement. Bequests during the year resulted in the highest unrestricted bequest bequest: see legacy.  income ever received by PWRDF in a single year. Donations from dioceses increased more than $500,000 over the previous year. Perhaps best of all is an increase of more than $300,000 in individual donations over what had been anticipated. The message in all this is clear. Anglicans across the land are hearing the call to serve the needs of the world in the name of Jesus Christ Jesus Christ: see Jesus.

My hope is that every parish in the country will want to be part of our response, through education, prayer and financial support. This effort is in addition to our continued emphasis on world poverty, injustice and women's empowerment.

The Body of Christ is a term used by Christians to describe believers in Christ. Jesus Christ is seen as the "head" of the body, which is the church.

A Message from the Executive Director

Dear Friends,

PWRDF staff monitoring visits to the projects we support in countries around the world provide an opportunity for affirmation for the enduring partnerships which link PWRDF to local, national, and regional organizations engaged in the struggle for a more peaceful and just world.

I was reminded of this during a recent visit to our partners at ADES (language) ADES - An early system on the IBM 704.

Version: ADES II.

These diverse activities represent a tapestry of strongly coloured threads, which reveal all of the strength, creativity and endurance of the people of Santa Marta Santa Marta (sän`tä mär`tä), city (1993 pop. 270,253), capital of Magdalena dept., N Colombia, a port on the Caribbean Sea. . As we gathered in the ADES offices to say our farewells, the ADES staff unrolled a painted wall hanging as a testimonial to the enduring partnership between ADES and PWRDF which has continued to strengthen over many years. The ADES wall hanging, a small portion of which appears in this annual report, speaks so clearly to our shared experiences as partners in development and also to our PWRDF mission statement.

This Annual Report speaks eloquently (though all too briefly!) about the excellent work done by PWRDF through our development partners. All this important work is made possible through the continuing generosity and good stewardship of Canadian Anglicans from across the country. We must be proud of the fact that PWRDF is your Fund; PWRDF is the only Fund for international relief and development work that is endorsed by the Anglican Church of Canada. Thank you for your continued confidence in your Primate's Fund and rest assured that, as a spirit filled community of hope, we continue to reach out, build partnerships, and make for life changing opportunities in the lives of people in the farthest reaches of our own country and our world.

We plant seeds that one day will grow

We plant seeds that one day will grow.
We water seeds already planted, knowing that they hold future
   promise.
We lay foundations that will need further development.
We provide yeast that produces effects far beyond our capabilities.
We cannot do everything, and there is a sense of liberation in
   realizing that.
This enables us to do something and do it very well.
It may be incomplete, but it is a beginning, a step along the way,

We are workers not master builders, ministers not messiahs.
We are prophets of a future not our own.
