The Powerful Result of Antioxidants on Your Health


Even though our bodily processes need oxygen, the usage of oxygen in our bodies causes oxidative destruction. Free radicals are produced when our bodies use oxygen. A free radical is a molecule that is lacking one or more electrons. This makes the molecule extremely unstable and it can cause many tribulations in our bodies. Antioxidants are nutrients that are found in food that are identified to slow or even check the effects of oxidative injury.

An antioxidant will stabilize a free radical and check further injury by donating the absent electron. Many of the foods found in nature are very extraordinary in antioxidants and including these foods can help us preclude diseases like cardiovascular disease and cancers and many of the problems normally connected with aging by strengthening our own immune systems.

Berries contain some of the peak antioxidant levels in the world. Blueberries, cranberries, blackberries, strawberries, grapes and cherries all have elevated antioxidant content. The Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity or ORAC is how food is measured for antioxidants. All berries rank high on the ORAC scale and the highest-ranking tangible food on the ORAC scale is the acai berry. A couple of items such as ground cloves and ground cinnamon rank over the acai but as for genuine foods the acai berry surpasses all.

Fruits that have a high level of antioxidants comprise the citrus category, orange, grapefruit and lemons and many of the more tropical fruits such as kiwi, mango and papaya. Apples, pears and plums are also tremendous.

By consuming a multicolored diet you will be sure to get an rich supply of antioxidants. Most of the vibrant and colorful foods found in nature are abounding in antioxidants. Berries are deep purple and red. Pumpkins and carrots are brilliant orange. Spinach and broccoli are deep green. Tomatoes and watermelon are red. Color is a big clue to antioxidant faculty.

Research continues on antioxidants but it is showing progressively more advantages for our healthiness. Superior immune function can thwart disease like cancers and heart disease and also avoid common ailments linked with aging such as macular degeneration and Alzheimer''s disease.
