The Paragon Company Ships Paragon 4.0, the Latest Version of Its Market Leading Construction Management Decision Support Software.
New Version Delivers Expanded Cost Management and Integration Capabilities to Program Managers
The PARAGON Company, a leading developer of owner-focused program management decision support software solutions, today announced the release of PARAGON 4.0, the latest upgrade to the successful PARAGON Program Management System that helps construction executives increase profitability and manage cost and risk more effectively.
PARAGON 4.0 was developed after extensive research, which included review and consultation with construction industry leaders. The new release includes improved budgeting and forecasting features, revolutionary new binder interface, re-engineered open architecture and improved links to best-of-breed project management applications, making PARAGON 4.0 the essential central software component of any integrated program management software solution.
"Our extensive research, which included consultation with leaders in the construction industry, indicated that the ability to deploy solutions on an enterprise-wide basis was of key importance to owners," said Schone Malliet, president and CEO of The PARAGON Company. "Our clients told us that information needs to be available on-line, real-time, and in an easy to understand format so that managers can make quick decisions to protect their bottom line."
PARAGON 4.0 has been redefined to conform to Windows Interface Standard Guidelines. Users who are familiar with other Microsoft and Microsoft compatible products can quickly learn how to use PARAGON, thus reducing project startup cost and time and increasing operating efficiency. Links to MS Word, MS Excel and MS Project have all been improved to create a seamless link between PARAGON and the Microsoft suite of business applications. The new PARAGON Binders(TM) allow construction program management professionals to view and manage construction cost and documents in a manner they are familiar with.
"As projects get larger and more complex, Project Managers want to be able to see project data from many sources summarized at a glance," said Darrell Garrett, Chief Technology Officer and lead developer of PARAGON 4.0. "They need the ability to manage all projects within a program or organization over a wide area network and produce business-critical summary program-wide reports. And those are the key issues that we focused on during development of 4.0."
PARAGON 4.0 incorporates several improved budget management features including the ability to define and track independent original budget, transfers and changes at both the project and contract level. New user-definable coding and line item budgeting increase flexibility in budget management and reporting.
"The PARAGON Project Management System takes program management to a whole new level," said Kevin Canada, Supervising Administrative Engineer, Construction Division, East Bay Municipal Utility District. "The system enables us to monitor our projects more closely and accurately, which has resulted in measurable cost savings. And based on our success with the system, our confidence level is very high that Release 4.0 will be an even stronger solution yet."
Additional new features include: a new contract drawing log, resource module, program-wide reference module, integrated calendar with schedule interface, an upgraded funding module which allows users to define an unlimited number of funding sources and cost splits for even more efficient funding and cash flow management, a Project Issue Tracking module which allows users to monitor project exposure by tagging records and assigning them to user-defined Issue Folders, and links to Primavera Project Planner(R) (P3(R)) and Microsoft Project that allow direct import of schedule activities, dates and coding.
To improve commitment and forecasting tracking, several improvements have been made in the areas of contract commitment and forecast management including the addition of a Contract Forecast Worksheet. The Contract Forecast Worksheet allows for the linking of open records directly to exposure for more accurate cost forecasting and risk management. PARAGON 4.0 also includes improvements to the contact manager, contractor directory, program and project coding module, project creation module and the Windows 95-style help system with Internet connectivity.
The PARAGON Company now offers single-user, and client/server versions of PARAGON 4.0. This new upgrade is a full 32-bit application written using the proven Microsoft development suite technology and takes full advantage of Rushmore(TM) optimization, Active X incorporation, object orientation in the development platform, and the fastest database search engine available among the Microsoft development suite of products. PARAGON is designed to run on a Windows-based PC with a Pentium chip or better, a minimum speed of 75Mhz and at least 16MB of RAM.
The PARAGON Company is a leading provider of owner-focused decision support software solutions and implementation services for construction program management. The company's flagship product, PARAGON, is a robust project management tool for the comprehensive control of construction projects or programs of any size from planning through construction.
