Development Programs

The PMI Foundation and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus The Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) is comprised of 21 Democratic Members of the United States Congress of Hispanic descent. The Caucus is dedicated to voicing and advancing, through the legislative process, issues affecting Hispanics in the United States and Puerto Rico.  Institute raised over $70,000 to benefit CHCI's nationally recognized leadership development programs impacting Hispanic youth, as the Institute held an education forum at PMI headquarters attended by dozens of Bay Area Hispanic high school and college students.

The dollars raised will fund CHCI's signature programs, including the Congressional Internship, Public Policy Fellowship and College Scholarship. Combined, CHCI's programs have developed thousands of the nation's emerging leaders and helped fund the higher education higher education

PMI launched its partnership with CHCI in December 2003 by officially becoming a Trusted Friend sponsor of the Institute's national housing initiative -- HOGAR, Hispanic Ownership, a Growing American Reality. It was then that PMI pledged that it would broaden its partnership with CHCI to, in addition to helping the Institute bridge the Hispanic homeownership divide, support CHCI's mission of developing the new generation of Latino leaders.

In addition to The PMI Foundation, PG&E Corporation, Keane Inc., FusionStorm, Chouinard & Myhre, Deloitte Touche, Ernst & Young, Kochis Fitz Wealth Management, Applied Graphics, Business Communication Resources, Allen Matkins Leck Gamble & Mallory, CAST, Cognos and Douglas Parking made contributions to CHCI's leadership development programs.

For the afternoon education forum, which was opened to the general public, CHCI worked closely with the office of U.S. Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher to bring Hispanic youth from Armijo High School History
Armijo High School is a secondary school located in Fairfield, California which first began operation in 1891. This school has been named both a California Distinguished School and a National School of Excellence.

The forum featured a panel consisting of CHCI board of director, Catherine M. Pino of the Carnegie Corporation of New York Carnegie Corporation of New York, foundation established (1911) to administer Andrew Carnegie's remaining personal fortune for philanthropic purposes. Initially endowed with $125 million, the foundation received another $10 million from the residual estate.  and CHCI alumni, Steven Lopez (former intern and fellow), Johanna Calabria (former fellow), Orson Aguilar (former fellow) and Sara Quinto (former intern).

CHCI, a Washington-DC based non-profit and non-partisan 501(c)(3) organization, provides educational programs for Hispanic college and postgraduate students.
