ST. CHARLES, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 6, 2003
The PMI Foundation made a $5,000 gift presentation to the Lazurus House, a homeless shelter in St. Charles, IL. The donation took place prior to the May 9th Michael Card concert at the Arcada Theatre in St. Charles, IL. Over 850 people were in attendance for the presentation and concert.
The PMI Foundation's contribution will go towards the completion of Lazarus House's transitional housing wing. The transitional wing will have capacity for 12 apartment rooms and will be able to accommodate 28 people. Its grand opening will take place June 14th.
"PMI has a strong tradition to help make affordable housing a reality in America, and this is one more example of their commitment," said Darlene Marcusson, Lazarus House Executive Director.
The PMI Foundation's commitment to support initiatives and organizations that foster greater access to affordable housing for underserved groups and minorities dovetails with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development sponsored "Continuum of Care."
Continuum of Care is designed to deliver three steps of housing and services to meet the specific needs of the homeless as they move toward stable housing and self-sufficiency. Lazarus House oversees its own Continuum of Care program.
Lazarus's services provide step-one, emergency shelter to persons connected with the Kane County community who are homeless or in need. The PMI Foundation's gift to Lazarus will allow Lazarus to put the finishing touches on step-two, transitional housing. Step three is to place families into permanent affordable housing.
"The staff at Lazarus is doing tremendous work to bridge the gap from homelessness to permanent affordable housing in Kane County," said David Widmoyer, Managing Director, PMI Mortgage Insurance Co.
The PMI Foundation's, a non-profit corporation, mission is to foster the goal of home ownership and provide access to affordable housing for under served areas and populations. The PMI Foundation does this by supporting partnerships with national and local organizations that create housing opportunities and help revitalize neighborhoods in communities throughout the United States.
