The Mission of the Foundation is to develop and execute fundraising initiatives to support NAMS in its objectives of promoting the health and quality of life of women through an understanding of menopause.

"With an unprecedented number of women reaching menopause--over two million each year in North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere.  alone--the public health challenge has never been greater," states Wulf H. Utian, MD, PhD, Executive Director of NAMS and Founding President of the Foundation. "Many of these women need accurate information to make informed decisions about their health at this often challenging time of life, not only to relieve menopause symptoms, but also to lower risk of diseases. Menopause represents an ideal time to initiate or reinforce a preventive health plan."

The formation of the Foundation will enable NAMS to focus its initiatives exclusively to scientific education endeavors and allow the Foundation to concentrate on raising monies to support those endeavors. The Foundation's concerted efforts will no doubt broaden the donor base.
