Now in an updated edition for 2006, The Newberry And Caldecott Awards by the Association For Library Service To Children The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) is a division of the American Library Association. Its members are concerned with the profession of children's Librarianship.  is a straightforward catalog catalog, descriptive list, on cards or in a book, of the contents of a library. Assurbanipal's library at Nineveh was cataloged on shelves of slate. The first known subject catalog was compiled by Callimachus at the Alexandrian Library in the 3d cent. B.C.  of children's books that received the Newberry award (2006-1922) and the Caldecott Award (2006-1938). Each entry lists the title, author, and illustrator of the book, along with a brief summary of the book's and art style, and a supplementary list of other honors the book earned. The 2006 edition also features a brand new essay by children's literacy consultant Sue McCleaf Nespeca, "Sharing Picture Books with Children to Promote Art Appreciation", which reviews the elements of great art and reveals how modern children's book artists incorporate such into their work.
