The New York Times Company Names Martin A. Nisenholtz Senior Vice President, Digital Operations.


NEW YORK -- The New York Times Company announced today that Martin A. Nisenholtz Martin Nisenholtz[1] was named senior vice president, digital operations for The New York Times Company in February 2005. He is responsible for the strategy development, operations and management of The New York Times Company's digital properties, including About. , CEO, New York Times Digital, has been named senior vice president of Digital Operations. The appointment is effective immediately and Mr. Nisenholtz will continue to report to Janet L. Robinson Janet L. Robinson is an American publishing executive, and became president and chief executive officer of The New York Times Company on December 27, 2004. As C.E.O., Robinson has primary responsibility for overseeing and coordinating all of the company's operations and business , president and CEO, The New York Times Company.

"This promotion recognizes Martin's outstanding contributions to the Company over the past ten years," said Ms. Robinson. "We will continue to rely on his vision and leadership in the digital arena as we move ahead."

In his new role, Mr. Nisenholtz will be responsible for the strategy development, operations and management of The New York Times Company's digital properties, including About.com, whose acquisition was announced today. NYTimes.com and Boston.com remain among the top news sites in the world, drawing readers to high-quality journalism and enhancing their presence among advertisers. Both NYTimes.com and Boston.com have been and will continue to be innovators in online advertising, an area that is growing rapidly.

Mr. Nisenholtz, 49, was named chief executive officer of New York Times Digital in 1999 after having served as president of The New York Times Electronic Media Company since 1995. During that time, he was responsible for the development and delivery of electronic products centered around the content of the newspaper.

Prior to joining the Times Company, Mr. Nisenholtz was director of content strategy for Ameritech Corporation, where he was responsible for guiding development of new video programming opportunities and interactive information and advertising services.

From 1983 to 1994, Mr. Nisenholtz worked at Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide, with his last position being senior vice president. In 1983 he founded the Interactive Marketing Group (IMG), the first creative development unit at a major U.S. advertising agency devoted specifically to interactive communication.

Mr. Nisenholtz began his career in 1979 as an assistant professor and research scientist at New York University New York University, mainly in New York City; coeducational; chartered 1831, opened 1832 as the Univ. of the City of New York, renamed 1896. It comprises 13 schools and colleges, maintaining 4 main centers (including the Medical Center) in the city, as well as the , where he participated on the founding faculty of the Interactive Telecommunications Program and worked on pioneering interactive media efforts in the areas of education, healthcare and public information.

Mr. Nisenholtz received a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Pennsylvania (body, education) University of Pennsylvania - The home of ENIAC and Machiavelli.
