The radio plays, written by Anthony Boucher and Denis Denis, king of Portugal: see Diniz.  Green, were based on the characters in Conan Doyle's stories. Each of the half-hour broadcasts retains the ads for Petri Wine, calls for support of the war effort, and offers stirring organ accompaniment, sound effects, and plenty of action. Episodes cover: a murderous tobacconist; numerous con men; German and Boer spies; a limping ghost; and a wealthy man stabbed in a locked room. Holmes and Watson even save the Prince of Wales Prince of Wales
