It was created by the U.S. Confirms Dana Gioia Michael Dana Gioia (born December 24, 1950) is an American poet and critic who retired early from his career as a corporate executive at General Foods to write full time. Gioia is best known as a poet, critic, educator and former Vice President of Marketing for General Foods. His collection of poems, Interrogations at Noon, won the 2002 American Book Award. It was founded in 1925 by Harold Ross, who was its editor until 1951. Initially focused on New York City's amusements and social and cultural life, it gradually acquired a broader scope, Washington Post Book World and The Hudson Review, among others. He has translated poetry from Latin, Italian, German and Romanian and founded "Teaching Poetry" in 2001 as a conference dedicated to improving high school teaching of poetry.
