The book is written in nontechnical language and emphasizes the practical, rather than theoretical, aspects of achieving optimal performance by adding daily mental training to the daily physical training. The technique is based on an unconscious response called subliminal subliminal /sub·lim·i·nal/ (-lim´i-n'l) below the threshold of sensation or conscious awareness.

Four steps are outlined: relaxation, positive affirmation statements, mental recall, and mental rehearsal. Mental conditioning may be attributable to several causes - mass media, society, peers, parents etc.

when an athlete is injured, one of the first steps in the healing process within the body is the need for increased circulation to the injured area.
