The MacNeal-Schwendler Corp. and IBM sign international re-marketing agreement.

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 2, 1994--The MacNeal-Schwendler Corp. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries) .

The agreement covers terms for international re-marketing of MSC (1) (MSC.Software Corporation, Santa Ana, CA, www.mscsoftware.com) Founded in 1963 by Richard H. MacNeal and Robert G. Schwendler, MSC is the world's largest provider of mechanical computer aided engineering (MCAE) strategies, simulation software and services.  applications programs developed under the Dassault Systemes CATIA A family of 2D and 3D CAD programs from IBM. CATIA was one of the first CAD programs to provide 3D solid modeling. The program was developed by Dassault Systems, a French aerospace company.  Application Architecture (CAA Caa

) Partner Program.

This agreement represents the first CAA Partner with whom IBM has agreed to re-market CAA application programs. This will permit MSC to reach CATIA-based accounts directly through the IBM sales and marketing team. Initial territorial agreements allow IBM to re-market the CATXPRES and CAT/FEA products in the United States and Puerto Rico.

IBM will develop and implement a market support plan under which they will provide first-level before and after sales support for end users. MSC will provide technical training and marketing support to the IBM team in conjunction with second- and third-tier technical support. MSC is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the CAA Application Programs to meet market requirements.

MSC is a Strategic Developers partner under the Dassault Systemes CAA Partner program. CATXPRES and CAT/FEA are the first two application programs developed by MSC under the program.

"This agreement enhances MSC's analysis market penetration consistent with our corporate goal to complement our Dassault Systemes CAD partnership," said Tom Curry, MSC senior vice president. "We look forward to working with IBM to extend their CAE (1) (Computer-Aided Engineering) Software that analyzes designs which have been created in the computer or that have been created elsewhere and entered into the computer.  services to the CATIA installed bases."

CATXPRES is an application module that provides the ability to export CAD model geometry data from the CATIA system and import this data to MSC/PATRAN.

This transfer of data is achieved through a STEP Express format file without translation and without conversion of the CATIA geometry data. MSC/PATRAN then directly applies its CAE applications and functions directly to the CATIA geometry in its native math form.

CAT/FEA is a multipurpose mul·ti·pur·pose

CAT/FEA provides the CATIA design engineer linear static, dynamic normal modes, and steady-state heat transfer analyses capabilities. CAT/FEA also performs design sensitivity analysis and finite element solution error estimation.

CAT/FEA and CATXPRES provide two levels of analysis capability to the CATIA engineer. CAT/FEA provides basic analysis capability within the CATIA user environment and CATXPRES provides access to more advanced analysis capabilities through the MSC/PATRAN system.

MacNeal-Schwendler is the largest single provider of finite element modeling and analysis to the computer-aided engineering market.

The company is also a leading provider of other products for the CAE market, including pre- and post-processing products.

The company's major product lines are MSC/NASTRAN, MSC/PATRAN, MSC/ARIES, MSC/EMAS, MSC/MVISION and MSC/DYTRAN, which are used by engineers and designers to model structures and assemblies to analyze for strength, dynamic response, thermal characteristics and electromagnetic forces and fields prior to manufacturing.

MSC products are marketed through offices in the United States, Europe and the Far East.
