CONDE NAST TRAVELER, MAY 2003

Located on a coastal mesa that early Spanish navigators called Punta de Los Arboles (Point of Trees), The Lodge at Torrey Pines Torrey Pines can refer to:
  • Torrey Pine, a broad, open-crowned pine.
  • Torrey Pines Golf Course, a municipal public golf course owned by the city of San Diego, California.
  • Torrey Pines High School, a high school in the North County Coastal area of San Diego, California.

Creating a new hotel that honored this legacy was a primary goal for one of San Diego's oldest hoteliers--the Evans family. But could the "new" be "old," and could one of America's greatest design eras--Arts & Crafts circa 1910--be authentically recreated?

By the time six months had passed since our opening in April 2002, the response was gratifying grat·i·fy

"Each of these winners represents the ultimate in world-class service and facilities," according to Michael Petrone, director of AAA's Tourism Information Development. "That means their customers can and should expect an extraordinary experience."

"We are honored by this award, and we have our entire staff "family" to thank," stated Dan Fullen, General Manager of The Lodge at Torrey Pines. "When we hire people, we look for those who are innately pleasant and who want to please, thereby creating a friendly, personal environment that is almost like staying in a private home, rather than a hotel."
