Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is startled to discover he is the son of Poseidon, his school chum Grover is a satyr satyr (sā`tər, săt`ər), in Greek mythology, part bestial, part human creature of the forests and mountains. Satyrs were usually represented as being very hairy and having the tails and ears of a horse and often the horns and legs of , his teacher Mrs. Dodds is one of the Furies, his Latin teacher is a centaur centaur (sĕn`tôr), in Greek mythology, creature, half man and half horse. The centaurs were fathered by Ixion or by Centaurus, who was Ixion's son. , and that he is a heroin-training. His mother is killed by the Minotaur while trying to get Percy to safety in a school for other children of Greek gods. Poseidon and Zeus are fighting over a stolen lightning bolt, so Percy and a couple of friends go on a quest to recover it. All Percy has to do is travel to Hades Hades (hā`dēz), in Greek and Roman religion and mythology.
