In 1780, 17-year-old Alan Lewrie is shipped off (by his father) to join the Navy as a midshipman midshipman: see toadfish. . He has no choice but to join the crew of the Ariadne as one of its older midshipmen. Used to a life of ease among the well-off of London, he hates everything about life at sea. But, despite himself, he begins to find strengths and reserves of character that he did not know he possessed. Lewrie's voyages are to North America and he becomes involved with battles with the Rebels, visits New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of and Charleston, and has his share of romantic trysts. The story is engrossing engrossing, in English law, practice of acquiring a monopoly of goods in order to sell them at an inflated price. The offense was ordinarily limited to monopolies of foods. Related practices were forestalling, i.e. , rich, and rousing, and the characters varied and vivid, including all classes aboard ship and on land. Listeners (even those who have never read naval adventures in the vein of Forester and O'Brian) will be caught up in Alan's story and be hard pressed to stop listening. Reader Lee's ability to truly capture every accent, gender, nationality and social class with unerring un·err·ing adj. Committing no mistakes; consistently accurate. un·err ing·ly adv. accuracy is amazing and adds a great deal of vibrancy to the already exciting story.
