A serial killer is once again attacking young women after a three-year hiatus. This time a young woman's body is found during a heat wave in Virginia, on the secured Marine base at Quantico, location of the FBI Training Academy attended by Kimberly Quincy, who makes the grisly discovery. She teams up with Michael "Mac" McCormack from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, who has been working on solving the previous murders in the serial killings. Fields is an outstanding reader, She fully voices all the characters and is especially skillful with men's voices and a Southern drawl. She vocally expresses well the fear, exhaustion, tension, frustration and disappointment of the investigators as they try to beat the clock. The personal backgrounds of Mac, Kimberly, her father, and his partner add another dimension to the story. This is Gardner's sixth thriller, featuring nonstop action and occasionally gruesome forensic evidence.
