Construction on Reach-1 of the Bangalore Metro Rail project between MG Road and Baiyyappanahalli commenced in 2007 and the work on Phase-1 of the Bangalore Metro is slated for completion by 2012. The first line is scheduled to open in December 2011.

) came into being for the purpose of implementing and subsequently operating the Delhi Metro Rail. The first section of the Delhi Metro was opened on December 24, 2002. however, the opening of Line -3 (Barakhamba Road - Indraprastha Extension ) on 11th Nov 2006 marked the successful completion of Delhi Metro project's Phase-I. Delhi Metro Rail has the distinction of being the second underground rapid transit system in India, after Kolkata and comprises elevated, at-grade and underground lines. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation also has lined up further development and expansion of the metro through Phase II and Phase III. Phase II comprises 128 km of route length and 79 stations, and is presently under construction. The first section opened in June 2008 and the entire phase is slated for completion in 2010. Phase III (112 km) and IV (108.5 km) are also planned to be completed by 2015 and 2020 respectively, with the network spanning 413.8 km.
