The Harry Smith Connection.


The Getty Museum celebrates the eclectic work of cultural icon A cultural icon is an object or person which is distinctive to, or particularly representative of, a specific culture. An example is the bowler hat which could be considered an English cultural icon. Others include tea, The Beatles and association football.  Harry Smith with a two-day symposium on April 20 and April 21. Through his experimental films and recordings -- including the seminal seminal /sem·i·nal/ (sem´i-n'l) pertaining to semen or to a seed.

Of, relating to, containing, or conveying semen or seed.
 1952 compilation recording "Anthology of American Folk Music The Anthology of American Folk Music is a compilation of several dozen folk and country music recordings that were released as 78 rpm records in the 1920s and 1930s. The compilation was originally released in 1952 as a collection of six LPs. " -- Smith became a major figure in 20th century American avant garde. Critics have called his artistic sensibility "proto-psychedelic." The two-day event includes screenings of Smith's films and live musical performances.
